PolymerCare resets expectations

Posted on 6th March, 2017

Following the recent announcement that WasteCare had launched a service for recycling post-consumer waste plastics, the WasteCare Group has since acquired the assets of Kent based Recapture Plastics Ltd to form a new business PolymerCare Ltd.

Graeme Parkin, Chief Operating Officer of the WasteCare Group praised the commitment and expertise of the existing management and workforce. “The plant is first class and with further investment we are confident we can tackle previously unrecoverable plastics to produce a consistent quality product. We plan to retain the existing workforce and expand the business as both the capacity and range of polymers that we can recover increases.”

With pressure on waste management companies to improve recycling rates and the desire to reach zero to landfill by 2020, mixed plastics is one recycling challenge that has to be solved. With the weakened pound and buyers in the Far East being more selective when it comes to waste plastic it has to be preferable to have a reliable recycling solution here in the UK. We can already handle over 1,000 tonnes per month and we plan to double this over the next few months.

The new business is able to handle all types of rigid plastics including mixed and contaminated post-consumer plastics from MRFs as well as traffic cones, wheelie bins and other industrial or post-production waste polymers.

Expect the best returns

Subject to contamination PolymerCare are currently paying rebates of up to £480 per tonne less recovery costs for baled material, based on polymer mix and yield. Collections can be arranged from anywhere within the UK.
