	Fluorescent Tube Recycling
	Why Recycle? The WEEE regulations 2006 are aimed at encouraging reuse and recycling thereby minimising the negative environmental impact of disposal. Putting fluorescent tubes into landfill is no longer an option with the introduction of the Landfill Directive and the ending of co-disposal in 2006.

	Quick Links		Currently over 60 million tubes per year are still sent to landfill. >Recycling has a number of benefits: - • Minimises health and safety risks to staff • Improves site housekeeping • Removes mercury from landfill • Demonstrates best environmental practice • Constitutes environmental best practice, and assists ISO 14001 accreditation Recovering materials and resources which would otherwise be lost • Material Collection and Handling Collections can be arranged either via our Website, by telephone or fax. Collection dates will be confirmed immediately and collections are guaranteed to be carried out within 10 days of a collection request. • Paperwork will be supplied by Wastecare at the point of collection. • Suitable containers for storage and transport are provided if required Wastecare offer a range of specialist containers for fluorescent tubes and lamps from 20-1000 lamps Sodium and other lamps are collected in drums. • Recycling Tubes are crushed in a revolutionary bulb eater machine. The materials are separated during the crushing process. Glass is recovered and used in the manufacture of loft insulation. The mercury contaminated phosphor powder is distilled to produce pure mercury for reuse.		• Collection Infrastructure Wastecare operate the largest dedicated national fleet of over 100 vehicles, based at 11 regional depots, offering flexibility, reliability and value. Collections are carried out entirely by Wastecare's own vehicles and trained personnel. All vehicles are liveried in the company's colours and logo; all drivers are trained to ADR and carry photographic identity cards. All vehicles are accessible via mobile phone. All drivers are issued with computer generated transfer notes and collection orders, this allows for materials to be logged at the point of collection, directly onto our computerised central system or alternatively on return to the depot. The information will include collection time and date, confirmation of authorised personnel, details of load and destination. • Security All Wastecare sites have either 24hr manned security or 24hr video surveillance with central station activation and alert, supported by Dowshu & TRMC ltd. Vehicles are currently being fitted with satellite tracking and all vehicles are insured against loss to a value of £15,000 goods in transit cover.
