Appendix Ch. Special Waste Regulations 1996 (as amended) (SWR)

Replaced the control of pollution (Special Waste) Regulations 1980 on 1st September 1996; these regulations implement the European Directive on Hazardous Waste, requiring all waste to be categorised and strictly monitored according to hazard.

The main features of these Regulations include:

  1. A new definition of Special Waste
  2. New Consignment Notes and administration
  3. Introduction of Environment Agency Special Waste Fee
  4. Restrictions on mixing Special Waste
  5. New powers for inspection at producers' premises
  6. 72 hour pre-notification
