Hazardous Waste is any Controlled Waste which is considered hazardous under the Hazardous Waste Regulations 2005. Regulations are complex requiring every product to be identified by separate chemical components within the waste; the hazard and concentration of each component has to be assessed against prescribed thresholds. |
Waste Selector has been produced to assist in determining which wastes are likely to be Special and those likely to be controlled. It also gives references to hazard criteria and the waste codes needed to complete the necessary paperwork. Certain waste streams are still being reviewed by the Environment Agency to determine whether they may, in fact, be regarded as "Hazardous". If in any doubt it is important to refer to the chemical supplier, Environment Agency or your waste management company for clarification. It is also important to note that in most cases, due to changes which take place during use. Waste is subject to change prior to disposal, therefore, the information supplied on the Manufacturers’ Safety Data Sheets when purchasing the product will not necessarily apply to the waste stream. | ||||
