The UK government’s Department of Energy & Climate Change and the Department of Business, Innovation & Skills have been abolished to make way for a new policy unit – the Department for Business, Energy & Industrial Strategy.
The new Department will be headed by the former Secretary of State for Communities and Local Government Greg Clark.
Prime Minister Theresa May has agreed to the formation of the new Department shortly after policy surrounding waste electrical and electronic equipment (WEEE) and ELV tyres should be transferred from BIS to Defra. The move suggests that the Prime Minister is hoping to see greater collaboration and cohesion between the two departments on future policy-making.
