500,000 tonnes of plastic material was recycled in the UK during 2011 according to a survey undertaken by the British Plastics Federation members.
Approximately 87% of the groups membership responded to the survey which revealed that a total of 517,000 tonnes of plastic material was recycled.
The majority of the waste processed by the recyclers came from the construction and demolition sector which accounted for 22.9%. End of life vehicles accounted for 22.1% of waste processed by BPF’s members followed by post-consumer household packaging with 18.5%.
