Last year just under 10% of portable batteries in the UK were recycled. New regulations which came into force on the 1st February 2010 require recycling levels to rise to 45% of batteries placed on the market by 2016. This equates to over 500 million batteries. In 2011 the target is 18% or over 8000 tonnes.
