Data / Business Analyst
Job Description
We are looking for two Data / Business Analysts to join our growing Business Intelligence function. You will play a key role in developing and maintaining SQL and SSRS-based reports and Power BI dashboards that support decision-making across the business. This role is primarily focused on operational reporting and analysis, but with the opportunity to contribute to our longer-term journey towards a data-first culture embracing KPI-driven dashboards and modern BI tools.
You will report to the Business Intelligence Lead.
Key Duties
- Develop and maintain operational reports using SQL, SSRS/Power BI Paginated Reports and Excel.
- Deliver accurate and timely reporting for business teams including operations, sales, finance, and customer services.
- Support the ongoing strategy to deliver a modern, timely and accurate data warehouse and analytics platform providing one version of truth via automation and Power BI dashboards.
- Engage directly with stakeholders at all levels — from depot staff with limited IT literacy through to senior leadership.
- Translate business questions into clear reporting requirements and outputs.
- Ensure accuracy, reliability, and consistency in reporting, especially where reports are customer-facing.
- Contribute ideas and suggestions to improve processes and reporting methods and utilisation.
- Support the rationalisation of existing reports and data entities as we transition to the new BI platform.
- At higher levels of experience, provide guidance to colleagues and support the BI Lead in shaping data management and reporting processes.
Essential Requirements
- Solid SQL skills (query writing, joins, stored procedures).
- Experience using SSRS for report development.
- Strong Excel capability (advanced formulas, pivots, lookups).
- Comfortable speaking with non-technical stakeholders, understanding their needs, and explaining data clearly.
- A proactive, adaptable mindset — comfortable with changing requirements and able to suggest improvements.
- Ability to work independently with limited training support.
- Commercial experience in relevant roles.
Nice To Have
- Exposure to Power BI or other equivalent BI tools (Tableau, Looker, Metabase).
- Experience supporting customer-facing reports.
- Knowledge of relational database concepts and data modelling
- Awareness of ETL processes and data warehousing principles
Personality Type
- Confident communicator — able to engage with users across all levels of the business.
- Adaptable and comfortable with changing requirements.
- Curious and proactive — willing to challenge, suggest improvements, and share ideas.
- Detail-focused but pragmatic, delivering “good enough” solutions in a timely way.
- Team player, open to learning and contributing to the wider BI journey.
We Offer
- £32,000 – £48,000 (DOE) + flexible benefits package.
- 33 days’ holiday (including bank holidays), with the option to buy/sell additional leave.
- Flexible benefits via Perkbox, including discounts on shopping and refurbished electronics.
- 4% company pension contribution.
- Hybrid by agreement, but mainly onsite in Leeds to stay close to stakeholders and colleagues
- Significant opportunities for on-the-job learning, growth, and progression as we continue to expand and build a modern BI function utilising the latest technologies and tools.
