Push to recycle more in Warwickshire

Posted on 10th January, 2011

Warwickshire County Council has reported that it is spending over £200,000 per month on landfill bills. This is due to the fact that all authorities have to pay a levy to the government for every tonne of waste that they send to landfill.

According to Martin Stott, Head of Environment and Resources at Warwickshire County Council, around half of the areas waste is sent to landfill. The rest is either recycled or sent to a local energy from waste plant.

The Council said that this cost was one of their biggest outgoings and hoped that publicising the figures would encourage householders to think more about what they recycled and what they sent to landfill.
