The expansion of business to a new site should be an exciting time, however, this excitement can often be overshadowed by what is left behind by previous tenants. This situation can become increasingly frustrating and costly when the leftover waste contains hazardous material of unknown origin and specification.
This increasingly common situation was the predicament a major printing company recently found themselves in after purchasing a factory and land in West Yorkshire. With uncertainty surrounding the types of waste stored in a large number of IBCs and drums, access proving to be extremely difficult and doubts expressed over the stability of some of the packaging, the challenge was set for WasteCare.
A project was initiated and coordinated by the Key Account Manager to assess the challenges including the equipment required, suitable logistics and site access and to then plan a safe collection procedure.
A specialist chemist was then deployed to site to conduct a site assessment and identify the waste streams before collection. Under five days from the first collection request, the waste was identified, made safe and removed from site for treatment and disposal, leaving the client to focus on moving into their new facility.
